What I liked

I really enjoyed how closely LJ, the managing partner at Shoals, worked with me to ensure that I was getting the experience I was looking for out of the position. He was constantly looking to teach me more, even offering me avenues to learn more about financial modeling and skills that may come in handy for future careers.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had started the position sooner in the summer, it was a great experience working at Shoals but I definitely wished to go deeper into some of the search fund fundamentals.

Advice

My one piece of advice would be to have effective and clear communication while working at Shoals. It something that is highly valued at the fund and makes the difficult process a search fund has to go through far more efficient.

What I liked

Direct contact with the MD. There is great emphasis on career development beyond what is required at Shoals Growth. Some of the work included: • Manage the end-to-end brokered deal pipeline • Analyze financial statements, business models, and other information in CIMs • Drive initial target analysis and post-LOI due diligence on targets • Coach undergrad intern teams
