Shire

global regulatory

July - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

The atmosphere was very friendly. All of my co workers were very friendly and eager to teach me. I also worked with another intern who started at the same time as me which was very nice. We worked together on projects a lot and helped each other out. It was also nice having someone close to my age to interact with.

What I wish was different

Honestly the only thing that I wish had been different was the time span of my internship. I wish I could have started the internship earlier in the summer in order to get more experience. One month really flies by.

Advice

Working on lots of different projects is vital. As an intern I didn’t know much about the company but getting to work with different groups helped me acclimate to the company.

Clinical Supply Intern

May - August 2017 • Lexington, MA

What I liked

The internship program as a whole was amazing. We were able to take a tour of the manufacturing facilities and the research laboratories even though my internship was not directly working in those areas. Also, there were presentations for all the interns to attend about different departments at Shire to learn about all the things that happen at Shire as a whole (i.e. clinical development, research, manufacturing, etc.)

What I wish was different

There were not any scheduled networking events for interns and employees of Shire. I had to reach out to people on my own in other departments I was interested in if I wanted to learn more about what they do on a daily basis.

Advice

Always be eager to help out with whatever task you are assigned to do. Also, if you have downtime during your internship, ask your manager what you can help them with. The enthusiasm that you radiate will leave a positive remark on your manager and they will be willing to write you recommendation letters or put in a good word for you with other departments at your company for future career opportunities.
