I enjoyed the opportunity of having an expense paid trip to Tennesse, meeting a large group of students who had a passion and understanding as to why we were staying in the south for a whole week. I also enjoyed the six-week intensive reading program we held on campus with 50 children. From Kindergarten to the 5th Grade, each of our scholars resides in the local Trenton Community, I felt being able to have the students come to TCNJ was one of the best things I enjoyed, because it gives them the exposure which many children need. What I wish was different
One thing I wish we could have done better. Use a better building. For some reason, we were in Forcina and I know there are plenty of building empty which could have given our scholars and even brighter exposure as to what TCNJ offers.
Advice
There were days a lot of us wanted to give up, but our Site Director was a step ahead of us and made us travel with the kids preventing us from leaving and not looking back. However, after getting the chance to sit down and getting to know these kids who grew up in the same environment as I did, I wanted to make sure they knew that the world we live in is vast and there's for the taking. I honestly miss my scholars and I can not wait to reapply in the summer of 2020
