Setra Systems Inc.

Regional Sales Manager

June 2020 - April 2021 • Boxborough, MA

What I liked

- Setra is desperate to hire because they know suck badly - 401k match - Big sales patch - Easy to get a job offer - non-competitive environment because people are weak - they are very cheap (if that is a pro) - good place to be while looking for other job and doing nothing - collaborate with other opco to learn best practices - decent products from 60+ year ago, they were originally founded 1967 - they will "move fast" during the interview cycle to try to "lock you in" to them with and send an exploding offer, because they suck and can't compete with other companies

What I wish was different

- Too many negatives, if you are reading this, Setra systems is a place where awful careers go to die and get nails put on the coffin so your career never revives - They will lie to during the interview process because they struggle in getting people to join. Eg about your sales comp plan, eg about all the resources you will have from Fortive. Eg about how supportive they are - Setra has many failed products. Eg power meter, their software product, their air quality product. They have become very good at launching failed products. Which is why their growth rate is very low. For public information, on the earning call, they are growing Low Single Digits - People and culture don't exist, this is hard to explain. Just visit their office in Boxborough in the middle of nowhere and walk on the 2nd floor, its like company that went out of business in the 1990s. Another example, is once you leave this company very few people will reach out to you. - There is dishonesty about sales comp plans, what they set will be a miracle to achieve. You will not achieve the comp they promise - Setra has really bad customer service and support. Customers don't enjoy setra - Awful people are hired. For example the VP of engineering hired his son. Many examples of son and daughters being hiring from employs who have been here 20 years+ - For sign on bonus they know many people have walked without putting this place on their linkedin, so they don't payout right away. - VP Sales micromanages, you will have to document more for this job that you ever have in the history of any job. They want to see if they are getting an ROI for each headcount. - Comp bands are very low so hard to hire quality talent - No BDR or SDR function, they completely failed when trying to start it before. - Setra is a worthless place, where the leadership is hoping to get a career elsewhere at Fortive - Being part of Fortive provides no benefits as they just are very cheap - Many very bad mistakes made over the past 40+ years, which is why their growth sucks - You will have to work 12+ hours days, do crazy documentation, to help VP sales that is completely missing his numbers. - Hands down over my 20+ years of experience the worst employer in the world, also zero culture, zero potential, junk company. - Engineering team is weak because of low comp bands they build bad products on bacnet and whitelabeled other systems.

Advice

Don't join, if you have a choice between being unemployed and setra, best be unemployed, having setra on your background will look ugly and culture and people are more dry than a desert. Setra team is not very honest during the interview processs

Software Engineering in

June - August 2019 • Boxborough, MA

What I liked

The internship gave me a lot of autonomy and ability to make my own decisions in system implementations when working on projects. The work environment was very supportive, and I felt I could always ask my boss when I needed clarification or guidance. Due to the smaller size of the company, I was able to work and interact with higher management, and I felt that my thoughts and ideas were taken seriously and appreciated.

What I wish was different

The amenities are not as luxurious as other software internships, and the provided coffee was lackluster.
