I like being able to provide personalized care for those in need, which allows senior citizens to stay out of nursing homes when they don't want to be in one. I also liked the schedule flexibility the job allowed.
What I wish was different
I wish the office staff cared more about the employees, they would pressure staff into working while sick and constantly asked for overtime and to work on days that were documented as unavailable on your schedule.
Advice
Be willing to stand up for yourself and watch out for your own best interest. When working in the medical field it is important to take breaks when needed to prevent burn-out, so it's important to learn your limits and be able to say no to extra shifts when needed.

Senior Caregiver
June - August 2021 • San Diego, CA
What I liked
Difficult yet fulfilling work. Flexible hours and schedule.
What I wish was different
Minimal training provided, so what I did not know already had to be learned on the job.
Advice
This is a strenuous line of work, mentally and physically, and you should only consider it if you truly care for those who are in your charge.
