Legislative Intern

May - July 2018 • Camden, NJ

What I liked

Location of the office was right on the Delaware River, the office atmosphere was always upbeat, the interns were given actual responsibility — not busy work. We went to a bunch of awesome local events, and met a lot of local politicians.

What I wish was different

Nothing — I had a great experience!

Advice

Make sure you’re comfortable answering cold calls from constituents — there are just as many difficult calls as there are enjoyable ones.

Press Intern

January - May 2017 • Washington, DC

What I liked

It was was an incredible experience to get to be working in Congress during the inauguration and first 100 days of the Trump presidency. I really got to learn a lot about how our legislative process works and see a different (and personal) side to politicians. Interning on the Hill is such a valuable experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given some more responsibilities in my internship. I often felt like I could be doing more. And it would have been betting if the internship was paid.

Advice

I would tell a future intern to speak up and ask for more responsibility. Often times employers or supervisors forget that they have you as a resource (and that you are capable) so don't feel like you are annoying them by asking for more work to do.
