About Senate Messengers

Senate Messenger positions are available throughout the school year, including summer. Minimum of 20 hours weekly (4 hours shifts M-F) with the opportunity for additional hours including some nights and weekends with given notice. Shifts available throughout morning and afternoon starting at 8am with the last shift ending at 6pm.

Responsibilities include delivering interdepartmental mail for Senate offices, labeling mail-out projects, and aiding Senate offices with any clerical help they need in the Capitol complex. Messengers assist with a variety of tasks including answering phones in Senate offices, working Senate Committees alongside committee clerks with handing out materials, and occasionally honorary events in the Senate Chamber. Thorough training is provided through shadowing until the employee is comfortable navigating the State Capitol. Great experience for those interested in state and local government. Non-partisan office under the Sergeant-At-Arms.

Self discipline in adhering to strict Senate policies and procedures is required. Punctuality, an excellent work ethic, and a strict dress code of business professional attire is strongly desired. No degree required. Students from all fields of study encouraged to inquire.
