My only wish is that I was able to get more clientele. With me traveling from lincoln back to Omaha every weekend to mow, I was limited to the number of lawns I could take on.

What I liked

Over the summer, I used social media and Etsy to drive figurine sales. As an artist, I enjoy being able to work for myself as often as I'd like. My other job tasks included creating online tutorials, maintaining an Instagram page, and communicating with customers globally through email and text. Having the control to create unique products was the most desired thing for me. Having this summer job affirmed my love for business and management.

What I wish was different

I wish I had taken the time to reorganize my online web store much earlier in the summer. Although I was always organized, I certainly did not have the most efficient shop. My takeaway from the entire summer was that I should prioritize organization and time management over some other aspects of my business. Doing so will be good for my business in the long run.

Advice

If another individual were to have the same summer job as I did, I would recommend that they focus more on creating differentiated products, rather than perfecting shop analytics. In this business, listing criteria and social media layouts are bound to change. To keep customers engaged, one should focus more so on the quality of their product.

Maybe charge a little bit more. My schedule was always filled to the point I could not accept more clients

Its a great summer job while you’re in college! It gets you out to meet new people every day! It’s the type of work that is so satisfying because you can see progress and take pride in what you accomplished! It also teaches you hard work and keeps you in excellent shape.

I liked the consistency and the ability to have my children with me.

It was hard to be flexible or get time off but I knew that going into it.

It was definitely a fun experience but make sure you work hard not to get burnt out at the beginning. It's exhausting watching kids all day and it is important to keep up your mental and physical health so that you can be a good and effective teacher as well.
