Au Pair

May - August 2018 • Santander, Cantabria

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Being an au pair puts you in a position of vulnerability as the employers can easily manipulate you if you are not prepared to stand up for yourself. Before going I would do research and see what the guidelines are for your country so you know when to tell the family no. If you are considering au pairing, definitely look into facebook groups in your city of choice to connect with other au pairs!

AcroYoga Instructor/Community Leader

August 2016 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

Being a community leader and a respected instructor in the AcroYoga Community of San Antonio has always been a profound dream of mine. I moved to San Antonio in 2015 and was introduced to parter AcroYoga from friends. I was quickly hooked! In 2016, I attended an AcroYoga certification program and became an instructor in San Antonio. Over the summer of 2018 I was introduced to the different AcroYoga communities across all of Texas. We were invited as a host for something called the Texas AcroYoga Seasonals for the month of June. Together, my co-teacher and a few other figureheads in the community organized an entire weekend of events ranging from acrobatic games, food options, picture tours, and a stand-up paddle board event in Seguin, Texas. As an Instructor, it felt empowering and encouraging to lead a group of individuals and host nearly 200 acrobats for the San Antonio AcroYoga Seasonals event.

What I wish was different

Shortly after the Seasonals event, our community had a meeting to discuss the pro's and con's of the seasonal events that transpired. The biggest change that we assessed for next year's seasonal event was to plan less! We had too many events and options planned for those that attended and a few events had little to no participation. In the future, we want to consolidate some of the events based on 2018's likes and dislikes to create an even better AcroYoga Seasonals event for 2019.

Advice

While intimidated to lead and be an organizer for such an event with little to no experience, After diving in and setting aside my self-doubt I learned a lot about myself and my ability to trust that I'm capable of handling much more responsibilities than I think. I believe that sometimes in life we have to leap first before knowing that the way is safe. Leadership will show itself from within and I learned that I am capable of rising to the occasion.
