Patient Care Assistant

February 2020 • La Jolla, CA

What I liked

I still work at this Position but at the start of my job I really noticed and appreciated the helpful an encouraging work environment. All the staff, whether they be direct patient care providers or other essential hospital staff, everyone seemed very together and committed to their jobs and each other. Lots of friendly people and it's easy to approach anyone to ask questions or to talk. I also have appreciated the opportunity to be amongst such high level health care experiences to gain personal experience and insight into how I want to shape my future in healthcare.

What I wish was different

I don't want to change much except I do wish I had a week or two of orientation/training versus just 3 days.

Advice

That even if you don't think you qualify, or you are nervous about a hospital environment, go for it. Apply to multiple positions, many may get rejected but eventually one will go through and even if you have to start somewhere you don't prefer, getting your foot in the door is so important.

What I liked

It was a great experience with patient care and developing skills as a clinician. I was able to interact with patients and staff, and learned the dynamics of a hospital

What I wish was different

A lot of time was spent with orientation and training which I understand is important, but it limited by interactions as a therapist.

Advice

Be patient and open to learning.

What I liked

Great learning experience. Very thorough and well organized new grad residency program. Friendly interview. Great pay rate.

What I wish was different

I was placed at a hospital that I do not like and is not a good fit for me. I wasn’t able to submit a preference for location.

Advice

Do your online research about interview questions, this helped me A TON.
