Scotts Miracle-Gro Company

Digital Marketing Intern

May 2019 • Marysville, OH

What I liked

I absolutely loved my time at the Scotts Miracle-Gro company. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, and always willing to help, no matter what team or department you were in. I also loved how cross-functional the company culture was. In every meeting or project that I was working on, there was a least 2 or more members from different departments there working on the project as well. My boss gave me a lot of different opportunities to share my input, participate in projects that I was interested in learning about, and gave me real tasks and projects that affected daily decisions and the overall business. In addition, a lot of my projects and work got brought up to senior leadership to help showcase my skills. My boss not only acted as my manager, giving me tasks and projects, but also as a mentor to help me build my professionalism and explore different career paths.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be afraid to throw yourself into a project where you aren't that experienced in. Everyone around you wants you to succeed and will help you learn along the way. Along with that, don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone is so willing to help you out in any way needed.

HR Intern

May - August 2020 • Marysville, OH

What I liked

I loved my time at Scotts and the people there. Even being completely remote, I felt welcomed and got a real feel for the culture. I appreciated that I was given meaningful work and projects that benefited the company. My manager always made it a point to ask how if I was enjoying my work or if there was anything else I was interested in working on. The diversity of the projects I worked on helped me develop new skill sets and showcase the abilities I already possessed.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for more work. You'll want to learn as much as you can during your internship, so be proactive and offer to help when you can.

Assistant Brand Intern

May - August 2020 • Marysville, OH

What I liked

I really connected with the projects I was assigned to work on for the summer. I thought the structure of the internship allowed me to develop my understanding of the business world and contribute to actual, meaningful projects. I met with over 50+ people while networking virtually and the company went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been an interest form or some sort of explanation of the placements on which brand team we were put on.

Advice

Meet with as many people as possible, especially in a virtual work environment it makes connections easier.
