Schnuck Markets, Inc.

Industrial Engineering Intern

June - August 2021 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked the fact that this internship brought me exposure to not only the engineering / operations department, but to the company as a whole. I got to learn and build upon my current skills while working and learning with other departments. Seeing how we all tied in to the success of the company was great, and everyone was nice and friendly along the way!

What I wish was different

What I wish could have been different was that we could have collaborated more in-person with the other interns. However, that was understandably due to the pandemic. Everything company wise was great!

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to not be afraid to ask questions! Everyone wants you to learn as much as possible, so don't ever hesitate to contribute to that!

IT Management Intern

June - August 2017 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I was put into a position in which I had no prior work experience restructuring an entire online database for a supermarket company that had a reputation across 100 retail locations. This position challenged and required of my business knowledge to create and maintain a new online format that employees would be able to understand and rely on for the future.

What I wish was different

More employees around my age group. I was dealing with employees 35 and older and I couldn't relate to them as much as I would to another intern or student.

Advice

Don't be afraid of your lack of experience. They let you go at your own pace and think of it as a learning experience where everything you're doing won't be criticized in a harsh way because they understand who you are and what are the skills that you possess. Be prepared to work hard and learn every day on the job.
