Schneider

Customer Service Intern

June - August 2023 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

The company culture is next level - you can clearly see the care that Schneider puts towards all of its associates. In particular, the truck drivers are exceptionally cared for and Schneider's motto "Safety First and Always" shines throughout all facets of business operations. I liked that everyone was so welcoming and supportive of my personal journey. Most of the people I reached out to were more than happy to take time out of their day to do a sit-in or mentorship meeting with me, regardless of their status within the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a bit more structure to the projects and tasks that I worked on. However, my "desk" grew throughout the summer and gained consistency with more tasks that I knew to work on each day. It felt like it was up to me to seek out work, but I am so thankful that I voiced my various interested initially because I was then shown many different tasks I could work on throughout the day during my time at Schneider.

Advice

Please network as much as you can. This is in regards to both your fellow interns, as well as associates of all levels and departments. I have formed so many new connections with people that I am beyond grateful for because I worked to make the most of my experience by meeting such a diverse range of people and positions. Also, attend the intern events! That is where I connected with so many peers that I now hope to stay in touch with. Some events had a better turn out than others, but attending these events is key to making the most of your experience!

HR Recruiting Intern

May - August 2022 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

The atmosphere at Schneider feels so community driven, it felt like I really became a part of a team that enjoyed having me there

What I wish was different

The shift hours were less than ideal, 10a to 7p. Because it was covering a phone queue, lunches were scheduled and time was tracked much more particularly than other office jobs, and it was extremely difficult to get any time off.

Advice

Be ready to learn a lot about the industry in what feels like very little time!

Interior Design Intern

May - August 2018 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

Got to work independently and further develop my skills within my field.

What I wish was different

More time to try out other jobs or learn more about the software/ programs. They were very happy to help their interns explore other positions at the company but it was hard to find that time within the short amount of time I was there.

Advice

Highly recommend this experience! Also recommend getting more than one internship throughout your college career in order to know more about how the field will work.

What I liked

Very informative position that gave me a lot of real life experience.

What I wish was different

The hours were constantly changing and that was hard to keep up with.

Advice

You have to be very open to trying everything the company has to offer, even if that isn't what you were looking to do.

Recruting Assistant Intern

May - August 2018 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

The company as a whole was very opening and friendly from the start. I noticed this right away from my mentor and co-workers as they were all very helpful as I learned about the position. The position itself allowed me to learn a lot about the transportation industry, simply through conversation with candidates. My favorite part was the level of responsibility I was given as I was doing the same tasks as a full time associate, which allowed me to learn about what it takes to work in the position. The internship also offered a lot of opportunities to sit in with professionals in other fields within the company. They even had an internal career fair allowing for many amazing networking opportunities.

What I wish was different

One thing I would have wished to have been different would have been my housing situation. I stayed at UW - Green Bay which was a very nice campus, but it was pretty far from where I was working. There are a lot of good options in Green Bay, but they were not always easy to find. I would highly recommend staying at St. Norbert's campus as it is very close.

Advice

Focus on becoming an expert with Taleo and navigating your computer. Once navigating becomes second nature to you, you will be able to focus on the candidate. Which will make converstion much better, and improve the overall candidate experience.
