event planner and volunteer manager

January - August 2018 • Providence, RI

What I liked

excelling in my personal skills while becoming comfortable speaking in front of large groups. I learned the value of time management and really appreciated being able to gather so many people together to participate in beach cleanups and other fundraising events- all surrounded around benefiting the environment and making the world a better place. People were awesome and everyone's attitude was positive and approachable which made this internship one of my favorite life experiences. Not to mention I participated in habitat restoration on Ninigret Salt marsh during the summer months which was amazing. I got to kayak to work every day for two months straight and restore the salt marshes along the coast of Rhode Island, all of which are vital ecosystems and desperately needed attention. Working hard with great people, all focused on making this world a better place was an incredibly great experience for me.

What I wish was different

Honestly, there is not much I would change about this internship. Great people who are approachable and willing to help if you have any questions. Some of the nicest people I've ever met and they are all dedicated towards improving our environment. The only thing i wish was that the pay was slightly higher but since I understand it's a nonprofit, I had no problem putting forth my greatest efforts since I was doing good for the world , and you can't put a number on that feeling of satisfaction.

Advice

I would definitely recommend either becoming an intern at Save The Bay or just get involved in one way or another, you will not regret it. Great people who have great connections, so if environmental science or other similar majors interest you I would not hesitate to apply. Great cause, great people, can't emphasize that enough. The amount of fun I had with my coworkers while actively producing quality work made me want to keep coming back day after day, There was never a dull moment.
