What is SJCOG?
The local officials in our seven cities and the county attend to the everyday needs of their own residents. But as our population grows and changes, people begin to notice how their neighbors’ activities affect their own lives regardless of political jurisdiction. We all share in the positive effects of this growth: more housing choice, increased job opportunities, greater variety of entertainment. But we also share the negative effects: gridlock, air pollution, and loss of open space, to name a few.
The San Joaquin Council of Governments brings together mayors, city council members, and county supervisors to work on regional issues. Planning for future transportation needs is the primary role of SJCOG, but the Council also takes a look at affordable housing, population statistics, airport land use and other issues of concern to the region. We join more than 25 COGs throughout California that also take a regional approach to problem-solving.
