Sam's Club

Frontline Cashier

June - August 2021 • Vernon Hills, IL

What I liked

I liked accommodating members with their various needs. I enjoyed working with a variety of people who all had different experiences. The other employees at my location are welcoming and very nice to new people. I also liked working with the staff who have been there for a while since they gave the most advice.

What I wish was different

I wish hours were more flexible. I also wish that I did not have to go to different departments to help out due to short staff. It was sometimes difficult to go back and forth from being at the register or help desk to doing carts outside.

Advice

Be open to learning from other people. The best advice can be given from people who have experienced life in a different way than what you have.

Frontline Cashier

June - August 2021 • Vernon Hills, IL

What I liked

I liked being able to work with a variety of people as a team and accommodating members with their various needs. I enjoyed interacting with both members and coworkers and learning from their personal experience. Working there felt like a team effort; other employees valued you being there and were welcoming.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours were more flexible and that I did not have to be in different departments do to the store being short staffed. It was sometimes tedious to be pulled from the register to do carts outside.

Advice

Be open to try something new and learn from what other people have to say.

Merchandiser

May - August 2021 • Port Huron, MI

What I liked

I liked that Sam's was very relaxed and that you were given a job before you were punched in and then had 8 hours to complete your task. The team was very friendly and everyone was willing to help when needed

What I wish was different

Being that I was part time it was not easy to get time off, weekends are extremely busy at Sam's so weekends were a must. I worked from 3-11:30 and although I lived at home with my parents I never seen them during the week because of my schedule being that I am a family oriented person this bothered me.

Advice

If you struggle lifting or pulling heavy objects this is not the job for you.

Merchandising Intern

June - August 2020 • Bentonville, AR

What I liked

It was my biggest learning experience both professionally and personally. I liked how interactive the company was with its interns, and I liked the project I was working on.

What I wish was different

I wished it was an in-person experience. Due to COVID, the internship was virtual, but there was not much that could be done about that.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for help! There are no wrong questions.

Management Trainee

July 2019 • Bentonville, AR

What I liked

This is a really good program because as a trainee you kind of like have "unlimited access" to reach out to anyone, even high level leadership people and touch base with them. The company value you and want to cultivate you. You can always ask questions without fearing small because everybody will answer nicely.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take good advantage of being young. When you are young, you can afford to make mistakes at work without being treated too harsh and ask "silly questions" without being judged. We all make mistakes at work. It's better for you to be bold and make them now than make them when you are over 30.

Customer Service Representative

June - August 2019 • North Las Vegas, NV

What I liked

I liked the work environment, fast paced and moving, as well as being able to develop my personal skills while helping others.

What I wish was different

The hiring process takes a longer time with the new HR System they use so it took about a month off of my work time.

Advice

If you are a hard worker, create connections with co workers, supervisors, and upper management, you will enjoy coming to work. Try your best everyday and since it's a customer relations job, take every interaction as a new and welcoming one.

What I liked

I liked that it gave you a broad view of the company including things happening at home office and internationally.

What I wish was different

The company was going through a lot of transitions, so it was difficult to get one on one mentorship at times.

What I wish was different

The hours were a little crazy 4-12:30 but was worth it

Member Assist

June 2019 • Ontario, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed having a certain amount of discretion and freedom to do my job. I was basically in charge of myself because I was the only person in the department during my shift.

What I wish was different

I do wish I had more help during my shift. I was often left alone for 8 hours, a full shift, until I clocked out. Had I had another associate with me, it would be less stressful to complete my tasks.

Advice

Take a deep breath and try your best to not get stressed. It can be very stressful to complete everything you need to get done, help out for the next day and provide great customer service. Multi-tasking is essential for this job. If you work well under pressure and are a dedicated multitasker, you will excel in this department.
