Student Ambassador at Salve Regina University

June - August 2019 • Newport, RI

What I liked

I enjoyed the environment the most. The job was around people I knew, people with similar backgrounds in terms of where they went to school. They were welcoming, helpful, and pushed me to grow in ways I hadn't thought possible, all while making the job enjoyable. I think that the opportunity to work in Admissions at Salve was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had the chance to take part in.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had taken the office work a little more seriously to begin with. Granted I really am no fan of any paper/office work to begin with but even so, I had a lot to learn from being asked to do tasks such as inventory, stacking and packing, making phone calls and I think I handicapped myself by not putting as much effort into it.

Advice

I would advise anyone thinking of taking on the job to have fun with it - but to take it seriously. There are jobs that are so much worse in the world than getting to give tours, share information, and sell the school. So give it your all, and no matter how difficult it may seem - it really isn't. Work hard, have fun, enjoy the summer.

I liked living in Newport and meeting new people

What I wish was different

The wages, the housing taxes and the accommodations

Advice

I would say if your looking to have a job that gets you some good experiences, then have a summer job. But if your someone who needs food and housing accommodations completely covered, don't stay on campus for a summer job, the struggle isn't worth it

Office Assistant

June - August 2019 • Newport, RI

What I liked

I liked the environment. Everyone was really friendly and was willing to help me if I needed it. I also learned a lot about the school and what all goes into housing and dealing with students over the summer.

What I wish was different

Advice

If you want this job, you have to be very organized. There is a lot of filing, forms, and other things that need to be kept track of over long periods of time and located when needed. Therefore, if you are not organized, you will loose crucial information that sometimes is a real inconvenience to replace.
