Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I was not the stereotypical intern in charge of coffee orders, cleanliness duties, or other such tasks with little significance. I liked that I was actually working on accounting projects that were benefitting the company. The projects I was working on actually mattered as they assisted my managers and coworkers in their daily tasks. I was able to gain a lot of valuable experience and learn about my desired profession through this opportunity.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to intern for the Kings, 110% take it. From the work you do, to the “behind the scenes” exposure you get for a professional sports team (and event venue), it’s truly a worthwhile experience. The atmosphere in the office is amazing as it’s an encouraging learning environment and everyone operates as one team.

There are tons of opportunities for advancement. The mentor program allows growth within the company. There are also tons of perks for working with the team. If you sell well, you can earn a ton of money in commission and bonuses.

What I wish was different

Business Analytics Intern

June - September 2018 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

Interning at the Kings was an amazing, career-changing experience. The program was heavily geared towards me and my interests, and my team was always making sure that I was working on projects that I actually wanted to work on. Being able to apply concepts and technical skills learned in class to a real, professional sports business was invaluable. This experience solidified my interest in my field of statistics.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been different is if the analytics team at the Kings had a data scientist that could have mentored me during my time there. Although I had support from my team, they worked on a wide range of tasks that did not always apply to me.

Advice

Apply for it! Take all you can get from it, impress as many people as you can.

Sales Operations Intern

June - August 2018 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I loved getting to work in the sports industry, and I got to meet a lot of awesome people and made lots of friendships and connections.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I wish i could've started my internship a few weeks earlier in the summer, but I loved every part of it.

Advice

There's a ton I learned over the summer, however I wouldn't have gotten to if I was afraid of emailing someone who didn't respond originally.
