Advice

An internship is a learning experience. You st emit expected to be an expert in your field, you are there to learn. The company that hired you knows that and their goal is to develop you so that by the end of the internship your skills and performance match what they are looking for in a full time employee. Always show a willingness to learn and don’t be afraid to ask questions and network.

Index Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The culture, my team, they really do want you to grow and learn every day, they understand the learning curve is high but are extremely patient and helpful to get you where you need to be.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have seen what the other interns did daily, they are on different teams doing completely different jobs. I wish the intern group project was different and more informative.

Advice

I would encourage you to do something challenging, something you haven't studied in depth or even heard of. I knew I would not be the best at it with only having a 9-week internship, but I knew I wanted to learn as much as can with my time there. I wanted to have a job where every day was different, no repetitive in and out days, this job was exactly that. The people on my team were encouraging and helpful through it all and I have accepted my full-time offer here. No job will be perfect, but if you can find one that has great people, great culture, and the ability to grow in the company that is a great start to your career.

Digital Content Manager Intern

June - July 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I love that I was able to grow and learn more about myself and what I was capable to do through the digital arts

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was the whole summer! I feel like I could have learned so much more.

Advice

Go for it. Before I was offer the intern position I was hesitant because although I was a digital creator, I didn’t know much about data distribution. Don’t let fear of the unknown hold you back from anything. I’m so glad that I didn’t.

Credit Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The program was well-structured despite the virtual format. I liked the formal credit analysis training and opportunities to hear from and interact with speakers such as the CEO. The work was interesting and stimulating and I learned a lot and furthered my skills working with fellow interns, analysts, and managers. I enjoyed getting to take ownership on multiple large projects.

What I wish was different

The internship was only 6 weeks and we didn't have access to confidential information due to the virtual format. I would have liked to be in-person to connect better with fellow interns. Communication about training requirements and expectations could also have been better, and I would have liked some more interaction/support from managers, as well.

Advice

The people at S&P are great and it's important to be proactive in reaching out to analysts and managers with any and all questions you might have to make sure you are getting the most out of the program, especially in the case of a virtual format.

HR Systems Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the hands-on experience. Even before learning about these skills in the classroom setting, I was encouraged to jump into a data analytics project. The exposure was also incredible, as I had the chance to present my final model to the CIO of the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had had the opportunity to spend more time with the people on my team. When I did, I enjoyed my time. Often times, however, they were working in a different office location.

Advice

If you are working for multiple teams, be clear about the amount of work you have when they ask you what you are working on. This way, you are given an appropriate workload.

HR Total Rewards Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people on my team, the work was rewarding and challenging. I had a lot of independence to work and meet people. My manager was very supportive of my developing new skills. There is a formal internship program for juniors in a segment of the business, so I was included in all of the scheduled activities (speaker series, networking events)

What I wish was different

A little more supervision

Advice

Definitely a good experience if you are a sophomore who wants to know how corporate HR works. There is no formal program in HR to bring students back the next summer though.
