Supply Planning Intern

June - August 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

How inviting the culture is. It is truly a "family company". Everyone I worked with wanted to watch me succeed and they made sure I knew that. No matter how many questions I had, my team took as much time as they could to assist me. I also worked on a really cool project that was implemented into the company and was something a full time would have worked on if an intern didn't.

Advice

Exhaust your resources. One of my favorite parts of my experience was setting up 1 on 1s with managers in different areas of Supply Chain and learning about their backgrounds and job functions. These managers gave me advice throughout the summer of how to better my project. They wanted to see me succeed and I may have never met them If I did not exhaust my resources.

I wish there was more room for me to make change.

Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Racine, WI

What I liked

SC Johnson provided me with my first experience into the corporate business world. Everyone at the company was so helpful and friendly throughout the duration of my internship. I was able to work on a global team and gain experiences in networking, project managing, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowePoint, and was able to understand HR processes and practices. Overall, the internship has been my best one yet, and I will recommend SCJ to any of my peers.

What I wish was different

I think it would have been beneficial for the interns to be able to preference what area of HR they would have liked to experience for our time at SCJ. But, we were able to network and attend meetings/events of other functions which was very beneficial

Advice

Don't be afraid to try. Coming in I was very nervous because I had never been in this environment before. My managers pushed me to participate and take the lead on many projects which in turn provided me with an even better experience and caused me to leave with additional skills.

Brand Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Racine, WI

What I liked

Having just completed the interview process, it was the smoothest and most enjoyable experience. After meeting and talking to many SCJ employees last fall, I quickly became interested in SCJ as an employer. I was able to easily connect with those I met at campus events and in the interviews. Next steps were always made clear and follow-up was timely. I enjoyed the conversational nature of the interview and ultimately was interested in working for and with the people I came in contact with throughout the application and interview process.

What I wish was different

Due to weather, my second round interview had to be done over the phone. Although I prefer interviewing in-person, the interview was as interactive as it could be due to the circumstances.

Advice

Approaching the interviews as in-depth conversations about your experiences, the company strategy, and market/consumer trends allowed me to quickly engage with those interviewing me.

Global Processing Intern

May - August 2018 • Racine, WI

What I liked

I really liked how applicable my projects were. I was assigned to three different projects over the summer and all three had direct impact on the company. Whether that was creating a database that engineers would use during formula changes, or helping construct a processing diagram for a new line, I was doing important work as an intern. I also loved the company culture. Everyone was extremely friendly, and I was encouraged to work with multiple other areas of the company. My mentors helped me set up meetings to learn about R&D as well as things like finance that helped me gain a better understanding of the company as a whole In addition to work life, SCJ provided an excellent experience for the interns as far as stay in Milwaukee. We were housed in the same neighborhood and often had planned events that made moving to a new city with new people really enjoyable.

What I wish was different

The commute to work is tough. I lived in Milwaukee but had to drive 35-40 min to work. It was more fun when I got to know the other interns and we carpooled, plus mke is an awesome place to be in the summer.

Advice

Don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Throughout my internship I found that I wasn't as interested in what I was doing for SCJ as I would be if I had been in a research role. I asked about learning opportunities beyond processing and eventually got to a point where I will be returning as a full time employee in R&D. So always ask questions if you want to learn more or try different things, you never know where it could get you.
