The campers I was tasked with caring for throughout the day definitely made it worth it! Not only is being a camp counselor a fun and different job than what you would usually be employed with over the summer, this job was very social! I had fun in what was very much a team environment as well as taking charge in the safety of others.
What I wish was different
I definitely wish I came prepared (field trips especially); A lot of trips were to places with pools/ more than enough sun, and I can't tell how many times I lamented not bringing water shoes or extra sunblock.
Advice
Be on top of anything out of the ordinary because it could mean a huge problem later on (i.e., a weird smell from the staff room COULD be the fridge where we keep the campers' lunches just ajar...who knows). Also, attention to detail is key. Knowing who likes what foods or who would appreciate this game more could mean a huge difference in the kids' days and yours.
