I enjoyed being part of the project planning processes to help out other Rutgers students for the brief time I worked at the CES office. I enjoyed the co-worker relations and welcoming work culture at the Rutgers CES offices. The flexibility of the schedule was greatly appreciated as well. I felt very supported and felt part of a bigger purpose by assisting Sharon, Lisa, and speaking with Linda, and Larissa on getting onboarded. The whole process was efficient and well managed.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more time to work at the CES offices with my school schedule! My only regret was not planning more classes later in the day to make the most of my mornings working on fun and engaging projects for students at the university!
Advice
I would advise people to truly become self aware of your personality and mission to better align who you are with who you will work for-- when you find the right match, work becomes purposeful and fun!
This is what I felt as a CES Intern for my brief time there.

Undergraduate Researcher

What I liked
I liked that it gave me the opportunity to experience the research process as I was deciding on whether or not to continue my education post-grad.
What I wish was different
I do wish that some of it were in-person. Because everything was mostly virtual, I wasn’t able to get much experience in the lab.
Advice
As most people say, it is what you make of it. The program was a great place to get feedback from professionals in the field. It’s also a good time to network not just with the teachers, but also with your fellow peers.

What I liked
I had a flexible schedule where I would submit research I would find regularly to the professor I was working under, and the topic I was, and am still, researching is very interesting.
What I wish was different
This is out of anyone's control, but I wish I could have been there in person. Instead, I we sent information back and forth via email and zoom.

I enjoy the flexibility of this job, and the routine that I am able to establish with my own schedule. I also appreciate that my work should lead to a publication within the next year and should help to advance my education and career.

IT Helpdesk Assistant
May 2019 • New Brunswick, NJ
What I liked
I liked the variety the job offered. I could be working on the computer handling tickets, then going to a faculty's office to fix a computer issue, or in the back setting up computers and their systems. My coworkers are also very fun to talk to and it's great to have someone you can depend on since you work in pairs.
What I wish was different
I wish the shift schedule had been more flexible. You can only start at 8am and go till 12 or 12 till 4, and that's not always workable with classes.
Advice
I highly recommend working in your major. I'm an ITI major and this job helps me explore my options as well as gives me experience. Working a relevant job is highly important in succeeding within your career.
