Human Resources Assistant I

June 2019 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

This was my second internship in a Human Resources role but this one at Roswell was incomparable. I loved how the HR team has around 40 employees who all work together to achieve one goal. The team culture is something I have always wanted in a job. I really enjoyed how welcoming everyone was and how willing they were to teach and mentor me. I loved how hands on my internship is and how much trust my bosses have in me. I especially liked how often we had team meetings. But the one thing that keeps me smiling is knowing what we do in Human Resources all relates back to our pateints with the goal to keep them safe and hire the best employees possible to treat them with nothing but amazing care.

What I wish was different

I'm being completley transparent when I say there's nothing about my internship I wish had been different. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot with my job and organization. I'm so grateful I get to continue working there part time through the remainder of college.

Advice

My advice to anyone in an intern role would be to always believe in themselves, work harder and harder everyday, have a great attitude, ask a ton of questions and most importantly enjoy it !! Internships in my opinion are the most valuable aspects i've gained through my time at Niagara University. Gaining real world experince is what will help prepare and set you apart.

Research intern

June - August 2019 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

Dr. Kisailus does a wonderful job with the summer program and he makes sure every student is having a good experience. The whole program was very well planned and everyone was welcoming. I really learned a lot in a very short amount of time and met a lot of great people.

What I wish was different

I wish we worked on our individual projects together to get feedback before presenting. Other than that, it’s a phenomenal program.

Advice

Be sure to work ahead of schedule.

Project Coordinator

May 2018 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

All employees work towards the same goal of finding a cure for cancer, very friendly environment.

What I wish was different

They do not have an official intern title unless you are doing research, so they occasionally did not have work for me and I had to find things to keep myself busy.

Advice

Even if it is not part of your major or exactly what you want to do, there are plenty of opportunities to move up and any way you can contribute to a cure is important.

Undergraduate Research Intern

June 2018 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

Overall, I was tremendously grateful that my mentor was willing to give me the opportunity to conduct research on breast cancer in African-American women. Despite her busy schedule, she ensured I knew what was going on in the project (by inviting me to database meetings), allowed me to come to her with guidance about my research poster/powerpoint, and essentially made sure I had everything I needed to be successful during my CSTEP summer research program. Furthermore, she saw that I was eager to learn about her project so she invited me to continue doing research under her mentorship (with the help of colleagues that work on her project also), as well as work on her other studies.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have spent less time in front of a computer and more time with patients, but luckily one of the studies I am working on now allows me to have patient interaction!

Advice

Always be proactive and ambitious! You never know what/who other people know, and you never know what opportunities may arise resulting from your hard work.

Intern

January - May 2017 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

I took this internship mainly because it would look good on my resume, but I found I really enjoyed working here. I learned a ton! I loved everything about working with CME (Continuing Medical Education) and working on medical events.

What I wish was different

There isn’t I would wish differently about being an intern there at Roswell.

Advice

If you have an idea share it with your supervisor. 1) So a coworker doesn’t try to pawn off your ideas theirs and 2) your idea could help shape future events.
