Being at a small advertising firm I was a part of every step of the campaign process from brainstorming to publication. I was treated as nearly an equal among my colleagues and was not doing busy work. My boss and I grew to have a mentor/mentee relationship by the end.
What I wish was different
I honestly just wish that it had been paid and that my hours were a bit more negotiable, I was in office usually from 9-6 everyday.
Advice
I would strive for less glamorous and small agencies when looking for advertising internships because they allow you to experience every step of the process and show you the real breadth of the field.
