The wide array of officers and office personnel that I interacted with were very helpful and respectful, always giving me critical advice and willing me to follow my passions.
What I wish was different
I do understand that I was an intern, but I did wish that I could have done more hands-on activities. Some days were very long because I was not able to do much but observe and tiptoe around. I completely acknowledge I am a liability and do not have the skills to help out drastically, however.
Advice
I went into this internship with my mind set on an occupation I wanted to pursue. Luckily, there was a chance to work in this field at the police department. I took advantage of this and quickly found out that I do not want to go into this profession after all. I learned this very important information by getting experience in the field now and not waiting until I am a working professional. This was an invaluable lesson and I encourage everyone to try and get some kind of experience in their field as soon as possible.
