River City Bank

Commerical Banking INtern

January - March 2023 • Davis, CA

What I liked

What I particularly cherished about my internship was the invaluable opportunity to learn from experts within the bank. Working closely with seasoned professionals in the industry allowed me to gain deep insights into the intricate workings of commercial banking. Whether it was understanding the nuances of financial analysis, risk assessment, or client relationship management, I was fortunate to have mentors who generously shared their wealth of knowledge and expertise. This learning environment not only expanded my theoretical understanding of banking but also provided me with real-world applications and practical skills that I can carry with me throughout my career.

Commercial Banking Associate

July 2022 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I started with the Banking Academy and realized early on that River City Bank's culture encourages professional growth within the realm of Commercial Banking. The Bank shines with their open door policy, allowing students and associates to talk to VP's and C-suite executives early in the Banking Academy and continuously throughout their career.

What I wish was different

The Banking Academy prepares students for the full-time position as an Associate as it allows them to do a project in either the CRE or C&I lending space, all of which is similar to what they can expect on the job. If I could change this, I would've been interested in doing both of the CRE and C&I projects instead of just choosing between the two.

Advice

Be prepared to ask questions and learn more about what separates commercial banking at River City Bank from other opportunities in finance. Having familiarity with excel and financial accounting is a big plus.

Summer Banking Academy Student

June - August 2021 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

Extremely hands on learning that really prepares you for next steps in your banking career.

What I wish was different

I wish we could have been in person as it would have been nice to get to know all these people face to face but we made it work well on Zoom.

Advice

Go into it with an open mind and be ready to learn so much more than you thought you were going to learn.

Credit Analysis & Operations Intern

January - June 2019 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed how supportive and invested both teams were in my own growth. They were truly there at every turn, and were willing to answer any and all questions I had, whether they were simple or not. Through this internship, I was able to see real financial statements, see the application of ratios in the banking environment, experience a taste of what an analyst would be doing, and feel how it would be like to work at River City Bank.

What I wish was different

Due to my erratic schedule (I came in two times a week), I wasn't able to work on any long-term projects. I'm sure if I were able to come in more consistently, then they would have been able to delegate more tasks to me. That being said, there was always material to read, things to research, and concepts to learn.

Advice

If you get this opportunity, definitely take it! It was a great learning experience!
