What I liked

I like how I was able to facilitate change in my community by helping to stop poverty. I like how the RESULTS leaders taught us valuable skills such as writing congress.

What I wish was different

I wish we were able to do in-person meetings instead of only Zoom, but because of the circumstances right now, I understand why it was done. I also wish the main focus wasn’t just poverty, meaning we could also focus on other issues such as climate change, racial injustice, etc.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is make sure you have the time to volunteer. I would find myself missing meetings because I didn’t schedule my time wisely. Although my time management has gotten better since I started. it’s not a good look to miss meetings because you forgot! Also, make sure you’re doing it because you want to, not because you have to. Volunteering takes up more time than you think, and you don’t want to be miserable.

What I liked

The most part I enjoyed was meeting and having a one-on-one discussion with the Members of Congress from Mississippi and effectively advise and guide them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. It was so empowering and inspiring to realize the incredible power I posses and how to become a powerful voice. It also provided me the opportunity to combine my energy, skills and life experiences to help address issues affecting many people in the society. Democracy is beautiful- Power to the people.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to address all our policy makers from the four corners of the world about the issues that affects our societies. I strongly believe in the African proverb “ If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. Equity is equality and so everyone deserves a happy and healthy life.

Advice

Use your voice to change the world. We have the power within so don’t wait for change, change starts with you and now. Your desire to change must be greater than your desire to stay the same.
