I really liked that Regal does their best to put you where your skills will be utilized the best. They also take into account what classes you have completed and previous skills you may have from other job experience.
What I wish was different
Unfortunately this summer, Regal went through a few different rounds of layoffs making the atmosphere around the office a little on the sad side. Although my other experience prior to this summer where there were no layoffs gave me a very positive impression of the company.
Advice
Get out there and begin working as soon as you are able to, whether it is a part time position during the spring/fall or full time during the summer. There is no reason as an engineering major that you would need to work in a non engineering type of company. These local companies need engineers and internships and co-ops are great to show them what you are made of.

Design Engineer I

What I liked
I work on a small breakaway team called Tailwind working on motor/blower technology for residential/light commercial HVAC applications. The best part of this team atmosphere is that we are learning new things everyday. Being at the forefront of axial flux motor technology, our team is one of the few that get's to develop ground breaking technology that hasn't been seen in industry before. As a result, there is no best practice... we are the engineers that are laying the groundwork for generations to come. On any given day, I am developing ways to make our motor/blower systems quieter and more efficient. That's what makes my job so exciting.
What I wish was different
The hardest part of working on such an innovative team is being able to gain traction/market share in the industry. Early adopters use our product to differentiate and over time larger OEM's will follow suit once the technology is proven. We have a very reliable product that is just beginning to make that transition into becoming mainstream. As a result, sometimes it is hard to get things done in the manufacturing environment because we aren't the large money makers for Regal

What I liked
Several design opportunities to create a brand new product from the ground up. Working with software and hardware, designing a PCB, giving presentations to engineering and marketing, and following a project to completion is extremely fulfilling.
