Advice

Ask questions. You are not expected to know anything, ask the most basic of questions and everyone will be helpful to answer.

Quantitative Research Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The internship was well structured and there are plenty of networking events to help you get acquainted with staff. You learn a lot from the internship by doing hands on activities.

What I wish was different

The internship class was large so there was less of a chance to learn 1 on 1 with managers.

Advice

If you want a return offer, make sure you are constantly presenting your socially best self.

Equity Research Summer Associate

What I liked

RBC Capital Markets has an incredible & welcoming culture, less common with investment banks. It cares about each employee regardless of which position you are in. I had a great time during the internship. I got an opportunity to work with all different industries within research department, a very unique experience.

Advice

Overall, it was a really great experience. I learned a lot and was able to get a lot of hands on experience. My best piece of advice would be to always maintain a positive attitude and smile. I thought this advice was very useful, and its something that is very simple that everyone can do no matter their skill level.

Global Markets Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Learning about the technical products and processes.

What I wish was different

I wish the structure had been different. Some interns got lucky and had a great structured experience, while some of us didn't even get managers assigned to us.

Advice

If you take this job, do a LOT of research and try very hard to network into the rotations you ACTUALLY want to do. Some of the rotations have very little flexibility.

Investment Banking Intern Municipal Finance

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The team at RBC is incredible and you will learn so much throughout this internship. Expectations are high and the pace is fast, but once you get acclimated to the work and the routine you will be shocked at how much you are learning in and out every day.

What I wish was different

The hours for this internship were a bit tough and definitely longer and harder than internships that I completed in the past. While the hours are long, it is to be expected in this industry and overall felt as though the culture and the experiential education that I was receiving made the hours worth my while.

Advice

The biggest piece of advice I would give to a future intern is to do everything you can to minimize mistakes but expect mistakes and expect failure. Learn from your mistakes and use them to help you grow. Don't be too hard on yourself and rise above the expectations of your superiors.

Operations Analyst

June - August 2018 • Jersey City, NJ

What I liked

It was an incredibly stimulating internship that gives students an opportunity to learn more about Capital Markets, Investment Banking, and Financial Services in general. Operations gives interns very valuable insight of how the banks function and the necessary steps required after the Front Office (Sales & Trading, Investment Banking, etc.) generate revenue for the firm.

What I wish was different

I wish the training had been a bit longer. The training session was only one day and it was a very general overview of Financial Markets, not so much a deep dive into RBC and how their systems operate.

Advice

Don't be afraid to network with people in other areas of the bank. I was given opportunities to network with people in Operations, Sales & Trading, FX Hedging, and Risk Management. The culture is extremely friendly and I'd highly recommend RBC Capital Markets to anyone looking to get their foot in the door in Financial Services, especially in Operations.
