What I liked

I am currently employed at Purdue University and I enjoy the fact that the professionalism and curriculum we learn in class is reflected directly in my day to day activities in my workplace.

What I wish was different

The pay can be better but I am just starting out and have no room to complain as many people today are without a job or steady income.

Advice

It is important for students to invest their time in finding a job that fully or partially has to do with their intended major. Dead end jobs and "college summer jobs" are not useful in the long run and only hinder a students ability to gain knowledge on their respective areas of study.

Career Advisement Team Member- Student Employee

August 2017 • Westville, IN

What I liked

The amount of flexibility this office offers its student employees. The staff is very understanding of the stress and workload of undergrads, and allows us to work on homework if the office is slow. The hours are ideal, the office is comfortable, and you get a great chance to network with lots of companies in the area.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more students to help.

Advice

I've learned to make sure to grab at any opportunities that may come at you. I have had to work the career expo's for the last two years ( four expos all together) and I have met many representatives from those events, which will help me attain gainful employment after I graduate. This department may not be a 'fun' office ( such like the Student Affairs) but, it looks great on your resume and you learn a lot of transferable skills .
