Punahou School

Teaching Aide

June - July 2020 • Honolulu, HI

What I liked

Many of us have probably faced new challenges due to the circumstances of COVID-19. While I am no exception, I truly enjoyed working with the students through the PUEO program this summer because they exemplified resilience and compassion.

What I wish was different

I only wish I had been able to meet my students and work with them in person; however, I know that that was not a likely option at this time.

Advice

Online education and building connections are definitely hard given our new circumstances. However, it is very much what you put into it. My advice is to push to go above and beyond for everyone you meet because that is what will help everyone get through this time together!

Punahou Summer School Teaching Assistant

June - July 2018 • Honolulu, HI

What I liked

The work environment was always very positive and safe. I really liked working with the kids and giving them the advice that I never had growing up.

What I wish was different

I wish that the pay system would be set up better. This summer was a transition from a paper to an electronic pay system, and it was a little difficult to make sure I had all my hours logged in.

Advice

Every action that you do is being watched, whether it be by teachers or kids, so be careful with your actions.
