Actuarial Intern

June - August 2021 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

I was given meaningful work that will have a lasting impact on the company. Networked with a lot of professionals through company events and also personal connections.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship would have been in person, but COVID made this difficult.

Advice

Make sure you take initiative to reach out to people in the organization. People are always willing to talk to you and share their knowledge and experience. Also look for other areas you can improve the company process, outside of the projects that were given to you.

Summer Intern

June - August 2020 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

Prudential is comprised of magnificent employees who offer a welcoming and bright workplace. The people at Prudential are kind intellects who appreciate the value of young talent and do their best to welcome in and accommodate their interns. The intern program is directed and run by an elite team who do their best to offer their interns training sessions, opportunities to talk with executives, volunteer activities, and much more.

What I wish was different

I wish the program wasn't cut short due to COVID. The summer felt rushed and crammed with not a lot of time to get acquainted with the position and tasks at hand. With weeks of training and trying to fit time in with coworkers who are already busy was a challenge. However, Prudential was resilient during the pandemic and still continued with an amazing internship opportunity offered completely virtually.

Advice

Experience in the workplace or an internship will help you learn things that you cannot in a classroom. Interacting with others and networking has played a huge roll in understanding job opportunities and what is out there to be discovered. Putting yourself out there to gain experience is nothing but beneficial and will help direct your career path.

Summer Marketing Associate

June - August 2019 • Paramus, NJ

What I liked

I liked how I could independently do work and work one on one with my supervisor. I liked how I could share ideas and suggestions to her. I liked being in an office with friendly people. They often gave me advice and talked to me about real life issues. I liked how close to home it was and I liked that I could get paid for my work.

What I wish was different

I wish there were other interns with me at times because it got lonely. I wish I didn't have to work in a cubicle. I wish there was more for me to do. I wish my supervisor was present more.

Advice

Unpleasant internships are just as important as pleasant ones. They can show you what you want and what you don't want in a career.

Actuarial Intern

June - August 2019 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

The diverse work and the very helpful and kind coworkers. Prudential also paid for my housing for the 10 weeks so I got very close with the other interns in the hotel.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew more programming going in. I spent far too much time trying to figure out the basics of VBA and SQL.

Advice

It’s important to ask questions and try to help with as many things as possible. The internship is short so you want to learn as much as you can in 10 weeks.

Unix Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Roseland, NJ

What I liked

I really loved being able to immerse myself in learning new things while building on existing skill sets. I had no experience with Unix going in, but I was able to build up from my knowledge in languages like Python and PHP while learning my way around Unix.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more involved with the general order of things, whether that was meetings or phone conferences. I had my tasks as an intern and knew how my deliverable played a role in the team's objectives, but learning more about the different projects happening on my team would have added to my experience there.

Advice

Really make the most out of the connections available, whether that's your manager, your team members, or other interns. Learn about what they're working on and don't be afraid to ask for advice.

What I liked

I was given a lot of autonomy over my own project. The people are very nice and everyone is willing to talk with you and help you out. Great culture

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to get to know other interns. Most of the events were team specific which made it hard to meet people accross teams and business functions.
