Project Horseshoe Farm

Community Health Fellow

June 2019 • Marion, AL

What I liked

This fellowship opportunity has exposed me to a variety of experiences, ideas, principles, and people that have taught me an incredible amount of information, techniques, and approaches that would not have been possible by following a traditional academic curriculum purely. Learning about real-world obstacles and adversities faced by the population we served will undoubtedly enhance my ability to care for similar persons in my professional pursuits. I could not possibly emphasize the benefits of this opportunity any more.

What I wish was different

I wish the Fellows and I were more aware of our obligations, responsibilities, and expectations prior to our start date. However, the tasks asked of us and the coinciding experiences could not have been better. The work is incredibly fulfilling.

Advice

By committing yourself to the community and the people served by this program, fellows and interns are able to see a genuine difference in the community, the people they serve, and themselves as a result of their efforts. Although the responsibilities associated with the position are rigorous and extensive, one's passion for the environment and helping others allows sustaining a positive outlook on the position simple and consistent. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.
