What I liked

I enjoyed being a part of Project Destined as a commercial real estate intern and immersing myself in the numerous opportunities through the 6-7 week long boot camps where we learned about fixed income markets to affordable housing. There are numerous opportunities in the different real estate sectors and tons of networking sessions with industry leaders. In the internship program, I learned many technical skills, such as how to assess rent and sale comparables, property value, and condition through data and market research to prepare presentations. Furthermore, I learned to utilize financial modeling to evaluate the success of deals and create valuations using the income approach and sales comparables. Thank you so much, Cedric, the program managers, and the rest of the staff, for putting this together.

Commercial Real Estate Intern

February - April 2023 • Miami, FL

What I liked

From the very beginning, the program was organized and structured in a way that made it easy for me to understand the material and the tasks assigned. One of the things I appreciated the most about this program was the level of support provided by the program coordinators. They were always available to answer any questions I had, and they were genuinely interested in helping me learn and grow as a real estate professional. The program also provided me with a wide range of learning opportunities. From online modules and virtual workshops to real-life case studies and simulations, I was able to develop a deep understanding of the industry and the skills required to succeed in it.

What I wish was different

while the support provided by the program coordinators was helpful, I would have appreciated more personalized attention and feedback on my work. As a virtual intern, it can be challenging to feel connected to the program and to receive the same level of support and mentorship as in-person interns. More regular check-ins and feedback would have helped to mitigate this.

Advice

If I could offer one piece of advice to anyone considering a virtual real estate internship program, it would be to actively seek out opportunities to connect with industry professionals and peers. While virtual programs can be isolating, there are still ways to network and build relationships with others in the field. Make an effort to attend virtual industry events and webinars, join online real estate communities, and connect with professionals on LinkedIn. Not only will this help you to expand your knowledge and gain insights into the industry, but it may also lead to future job opportunities and connections.

Commercial Real Estate Intern

February - April 2023 • Arlington, TX

What I liked

I appreciated the opportunity to learn about real estate basics and the procedure of buying real estate through genuine deal contests. I was able to put the abilities and resources we learned as interns to use in real-world situations thanks to these competitions. I've been able to network with people who have experience in the commercial real estate sector because to Project Destined. Because I get to learn from people who have more experience in this career field, I have found the Executive Speakers Series and the relationship we have been able to establish with the mentors assigned to our teams to be beneficial.

What I wish was different

Future interns should make sure they communicate with their team in order to succeed, is one piece of advice I would give them. You must be committed to picking up from your errors and learning from them throughout the internship, in my opinion. Last but not least, schedule your time wisely and make sure you can be there for your team members as well as yourself. As you learn from experts, make sure you utilize this learning opportunity and the resources offered to you.

Advice

Continue in project destined. Continue to learn.

What I liked

I really like that Project Destined is a place that constantly wants to expose students to great opportunities. Students are provided with the basic concepts of real estate and from there are able to expand their knowledge as they join other Project Destined programs. What I really love about Project Destined is that there is always a new program or position to apply for. So far in less than a year I've been able to take part in 4 of Project Destined's programs and each one offers something different and is related to different aspects of real estate. Project Destined is somewhere that truly breeds success and makes us students very well rounded!

What I wish was different

One thing I wish was different was maybe to have more full-time positions/internships offered in states like Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

Advice

One piece of advice I have is to sign up for Project Destined! Being a part of this network will open so many doors and allow you to be in positions and rooms that you may have never seen or thought about yourself being in. Additionally, I encourage students to APPLY FOR EVERYTHING! Project Destined offers so many programs and opportunities, apply for everything, you will learn so much from these different programs and be able to connect with so many like minded individuals!
