Office and Warehouse Volunteer

What I liked

Project C.U.R.E.'s Arizona office and warehouse was a great volunteer experience. I liked how I had a variety of experiences, including donation accession in the warehouse, volunteer management in the office, and donation pickup from donor hospitals across the valley. This variety provided an opportunity to develop and learn a wide variety of skills. It feels good to be participating in an important work. While I did not have the opportunity to meet personally the individuals we impact, as all our donations go to international sites, it's possible to feel and see the difference we make when preparing enormous shipments of life-saving equipment for critical-need areas. I also appreciated that the pace of work is flexible. A range of abilities and capabilities are welcome, and with a good attitude, the work can be moved forward with the skillset you already have.

What I wish was different

Advice

My advice is to be flexible and to be willing to take initiative. The Arizona office and warehouse has limited full-time staff that's pulled in a lot of directions, so learning how to be independent and do good work on your own, or on your own with other volunteers or interns, is important to having a good experience and getting good work done.

The team here is so amazing. Travis and Danielle are the intern supervisors and take pride and providing an all around intern experience in every aspect of the organization.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time in my week to intern more.

Do not let the warehouse environment intimidate you or prevent you from applying to intern here.

What I liked

Loved the hands on experience working with volunteers and coordinating my own project. I had a lot of independence which allowed room to shine and organize my initiative. I also had the opportunity to run many volunteer groups which was incredible interpersonal experience.

What I wish was different

Honestly, very little. The program runs smoothly and the large amount of intern responsibility allows everyone to assist one another

Advice

Engage! Show up and give your best effort to the projects your’e assigned. Wear comfy clothes and be ready for manual labor.

What I liked

The mission of this non profit speaks to the soul. The need they reach and the effect they have on a global level is amazing. The people are friendly and you learn a great deal, very hands on.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to spend there, it’s amazing!!

Advice

Be prepared to work hard and keep moving. This non profit works off mostly volunteers and it’s incredible.

Biomedical Intern

What I liked

The internship gives you a lot of experience working with biomedical equipment and understand what that equipment does.

What I wish was different

Honestly, nothing. I’ve had a great time in this internship.

Advice

Write down the devices you work with. You work with so many different ones, it’s hard to keep track of what you’ve tested. A lot of people are curious about it to, so it will help when having conversations.
