What I liked
I enjoyed writing letters to people in Pennsylvania about ways to vote in this upcoming election and why it is important to vote. I was glad I was able to write from my perspective as a college student about what is at stake in this election for people of my age group, and I felt my writing was making an impact on Democratic turnout in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania for this election.
What I wish was different
I wish the time between letter-writing and phone banking had been more evenly split in September and October, instead of scheduling four hours of phone banking time and no more than 90 minutes on letter-writing.
Advice
When Progressive Turnout Project eventually returns to canvassing after the COVID-19 pandemic, make sure to wear light colors and wear sneakers that are comfortable for walking in, and make sure to have a plan on where to park your car before you leave for your turf! While talking to people (on the phone and while canvassing) make sure to always keep a positive attitude, even when people are rude, and take things one house/call at a time.
