Varied jobs each day, great supervisor, interesting coworkers and job environment
study art so i loved being around art every day
access to amazing art and research resources
great town (Princeton), fun to explore, academic, lively
lived on campus, free housing
opportunities to learn more about the industry, talks with curators/museum staff/museum director
given a lot of responsibility and freedom by my supervisor
dynamic work environment, got to go on trips occasionally
What I wish was different
I wish we were allowed to use more of the facilities on Princeton's campus
I wish the director of the internship program were a more helpful liaison between non-Princeton students and the campus administration (for use of gym/other facilities)
I wish my supervisor had been a bit more structured with work at times
Advice
The art world is multifaceted and offers a lot of different opportunities depending on one's interest. A museum is a great academic environment but that combines commercial and customer service aspects, like working in the museum store, customer relations, marketing, etc. I really liked being in an environment that offered both and to see how all of the departments work together to run a sizeable museum with a fantastic collection and how they engage both across campus and into the larger outside community.
