I loved that the position was available to work from the convenience of my home remotely. I also loved working with the rest of the admin of the virtual summer school.
What I wish was different
I wish that this would be an on going position and that there was a more intimate training 1 on 1 or in small groups because the way it had the training course was hard to understand and tedious to ask questions because of the time frame the instructors had to teach every thing from attendance, to registering students, and assigning classes etc.
Advice
Definitely to have some in school experience working within summer school although it is less work to do since in person you have to worry about bus routes and more incoming calls from parents.

Assistant teacher
June - July 2019 • Manassas, VA
What I liked
I loved being able to get the experience of working with children as a future elementary school teacher. It was great working with teachers that have so much experience as well. They helped to show me the ropes of teaching while also giving me advice and great resources when I have my own classroom.
What I wish was different
I wish it could have been a longer term experience, but it was summer school so nothing can be done about that.
Advice
Make sure you enjoy working with students and are good at communicating as well as working with other teachers. If you end up with the right team of people the experience is the best.

Property Management Intern
May - August 2019 • Manassas, VA
What I liked
It was close to home, I was able to gain office environment experience, and I was able to use my skills in organization and being detail-oriented. My co-workers were extremely helpful and welcoming. I also enjoyed working under some pressure to meet a deadline. I felt as though I was genuinely valued at my work.
What I wish was different
I wish my work load would have been a bit more diverse and involved more creativity. It was a role that almost anyone could have done and it did not apply the skills I have learned while at Holy Cross.
Advice
Even if anyone could fill the role you are in, go the extra mile and make it so that no one else could fill the role as well as you. Work efficiently and steadily so that you get your work done on time without sacrificing the quality and over-looking small, but important details. Set weekly, daily, and even hourly goals for yourself so that you stay on track and stay motivated.

Teacher Assistant
June - July 2018 • Haymarket, VA
What I liked
I loved this job because I got to explore what daily life working in a classroom setting is like. As an assistant, I was able to help individual students for the majority of my time. Being able to actually help the students personally, teach them, encourage them, and see them improve or at least feel motivated to participate in activities was very fulfilling for me and has inspired me to continue work in education.

Summer School Teacher Assistant
July 2018 • Woodbridge, VA
What I liked
I loved getting first hand experience working with children and learning the ropes about teacher's daily roles. It also gave me insight into the disparities in education, which will help me with education policy in the future.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to teach a lesson because that would have been a good learning opportunity.
Advice
You need to be patient when working with kids and helping them learn.
