I loved everyone I worked with. They helped me every step of the way and yet let me be independent and learn on my own as well. I got a feeling for what work in the field is really like, and the sorts of activities that I prefer within a lab setting.
What I wish was different
I wish I had other interns by my side. I was really nervous about working with mostly PHDs, so it would have been nice to discuss things with someone on my own level. I wouldn’t have been as concerned about “feeling down”
Advice
Don’t be afraid that you can’t do something or that you aren’t smart enough. I really put myself down when I thought about presenting my research in front of 20 PHDs and I really didn’t think I was qualified, but I actually nailed it. Don’t forget that you are educating yourself and learning new things; they don’t expect you to be an expert right away.
