Advice

Co-op

August 2017 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I have learned so much here. I am on m 3rd rotation and I have my own projects and a lot of responsibility. It is a challenging position but very rewarding. I have done everything from schematic and PCB design to soldering and testing.

What I wish was different

I wish I gave more effort in my first rotation.

Advice

Go into an internship or co-op not for the money or the name of the company but for the experience you think you will gain. My company is small which allows for more responsibility and less red tape. Give a lot of effort even if you feel you are treading water and everything goes over your head.

Software Engineer

January - August 2017 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed working in an environment that was fast-paced. I was able to apply a lot of what I learned from classes and I was expected by my employers to work at a high caliber. If needed, my supervisor or colleagues were more than willing to help when I needed and made me feel welcome.

What I wish was different

I wish I had some more experience in engineering so that I could have also tried helping out the building of microchips.

Advice

Expect the job to be fast-paced but don't feel scared to ask for help.

Computer Hardware Engineer

April - August 2018 • Fox Chapel, PA

What I liked

Great experiences with handoff projects. I really enjoyed how much the company put me to work and tested my skills. I always felt like I was doing something meaningful at Powercast.

What I wish was different

In June, there was a lot of slowdown on projects, so I didn't have much to do. I wish that I could have been taught more software skills during that time.

Advice

Never stop asking for work, your employers will notice how hardworking you are.
