Point Loma Nazarene University

Biology Research Intern

May 2017 - July 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I really like the community. Getting to be around other scientists and friends is a lot of fun.

What I wish was different

I wish the days didn't take so long I guess. Sometimes you have to stay late, but that's just science sometimes.

Advice

I would suggest taking advantage of it and embracing the research, even if it's not something you want to do. It gets you good experience and can allow you to make a honors project out of it. Also, connect with the other students and professors because it's a really unique, awesome community.

Biological and Chemical Intern

May - July 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I liked learning in the field for my major and getting to work with others who were passionate about our research.

What I wish was different

Great people, good resume-building/research experience, and amazing community. Living and working with the same cool people all summer was a blast, and a great way to get introduced to what real research looks like on the day-to-day.

Nothing! It's what it says on the tin, but probably better than you expect.

Advice

If research is even remotely interesting to you, definitely give it a try. It's great.

What I liked

I love being able to communicate and be of service to the community. It is fun seeing so many faces in one shift, and being able to help and assist visitors.

What I wish was different

I don't particularly like working graveyard shifts; however, it must be done and once I was used to it my body was able to react better to the different sleep schedule.

Advice

I would advise to be willing to learn. I learn something new daily on this job. The important thing is being present and friendly to everyone you encounter.
