What I liked

I liked the atmosphere around the gym with not only coworkers but members. The company prides itself on friendliness which was very apparent when interacting with others.

What I wish was different

I wish the job had paid more than it does. It is one of the only mainstream gyms that doesn’t offer commission to its employees. There’s also not designated jobs, so for minimum wage, as an employee, you must play the role of a janitor, a sales person, a greeter, a customer service member, amongst a variety of other roles which in the end really isn’t worth it when there’s other gyms that will offer better wages to their employees for a fraction of the work.

Advice

A piece of advice I would share with anyone wanting to have a summer job is to look for something that will build your professional resume! Although jobs like these are easy to obtain, it’s much more fulfilling to earn money while also gaining experience that you’ll use for the rest of your life.

I liked interacting with guests as they came through the door, and showing them how to workout better with the facilities provided.

What I wish was different

I wish there was better communication amongst the team members in regards to getting team tasks done in a more timely manner.

Advice

Persistence will take you a long way. There were many times where I failed at many tasks early on, but it was due to my eagerness to do better that I eventually became really good at my duties sooner than expected.

Don’t go into customer service unless you actually like helping people...and not just the nice people. Even people who yell and curse at you. You need to be able to be calm in highly intense situations and patient and empathetic with all types of people.

I loved being in a welcoming working environment. The other employees were always prepared to help each other out if we noticed the other struggling.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to work as many hours as I wanted to, but because of how many staff members we had hours were not always consistent.

Even if this job does not fit what you are going for in college, it is still working experience that you can take along with you, and that could potentially help you in the future.

What I liked

I loved being ina gym environment and getting to know the regular members who would come in often. I also enjoyed the free membership and I used it a lot. I loved all of my employees and the management was great!
