Summer Tour Guide

What I liked

I loved getting to meet so many new people while giving tours! I also learned a lot about college admission processes while developing my customer service skills! There are also a lot of opportunities to still get involved on campus over the summer like different hiring committees, meeting different staff members, and offering student input on new projects!

What I wish was different

The only aspect I wish I could change was the heat! Some days were over 100˚F so it was sometimes uncomfortable for our guests but we did everything in our power to keep them cool by keeping them in air conditioned areas, providing water and umbrellas, and even surprising them with popsicles at the end of the tour!

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is don't be too hard on yourself! Sometimes, I would mess up my wording or say something in an order I didn't like. Eventually I learned sometimes it can make things feel more relatable, I developed my public speaking skills, and I learned to laugh at myself.

Orientation Adventure Coordinator

What I liked

The experience of full participation in Pitzer’s community. I also liked the responsibility of planning 10 3 day trips.

What I wish was different

I think this job starts too early in the summer- I could have gotten just as much done if we had started in July.

Advice

Negotiate for some time at home/not in Claremont if that’s what you want!

I feel it would have been smoother for me if I had a more thorough training.
