Pinto Valley Mining Corp.

Summer Intern

June 2021 • Miami, AZ

What I liked

Pinto Valley Mine has a great internship opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed my internship this summer and now have very valuable business administration experience under my belt. This internship has allowed me to obtain essential skills I know I will need in the career field I aspire to be in. Skills such as multitasking, communicating, time management, creativity, teamwork, organization, adaptability, etc. The work environment at Pinto Valley Mine is also great. Everyone tries to help each other out as much as they could and always looks out for one another. Working at Pinto Valley Mine has taught me that there will always be a consistent opportunity to grow and learn more.

What I wish was different

Being that I worked in the administration building, I spent most of my time in an office working on my assigned projects. I wish I could've had more time to explore the mine outside the administration building and go see the different departments and meet the people who worked there.

Advice

Some pieces of advice I would like to share about this experience are to keep your projects organized by creating an itinerary, binder, or meeting with your supervisor to make sure you are doing everything you need to be doing with the correct tools. Secondly, don't fall behind on your projects. This can be accomplished by creating a planner, knowing when your supervisor wants projects done, and good time management. Lastly, never be afraid to ask for help! Everyone at Pinto Valley Mine is super friendly and will not hesitate to help you.

Summer Intern

April 2021 • Miami, AZ

What I liked

Pinto valley offers a variety of job experiences that are applicable to any field of work. I worked in the Administrative building for my summer internship and was given real life/ work experience which included: networking with upper management as well as the rest of the company. I obtained organizational skills, time management, multi tasking and was given collaborative projects that pertained to my degree (Business management and communications). I was respected and my opinion as a college student was valued. Great work environment and great potential to have a career. Not only do they focus on mining but there are so many more job opportunities available for the business aspect of it. I loved working here. Would work here next summer and potentially full time.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunity to showcase my skills and my experience. I had great projects but I also had a lot of busy work that didn't give me too much opportunity to learn and grow.

Advice

I have several pieces of advice: 1. Be open minded. Even though it is a mining company, it's still a corporation and with that comes business. There are more work and learning opportunities than you think. ( I came in as a pre-med major, considered civil engineering, environmental, etc... but changed to business because of how much I enjoyed working here). 2. Be clear with your supervisor about the kind of work that you want to be doing, what you want to learn, how you want to be challenged, and how you want to grow as a young professional. 3. Be respectful and work hard.
