Advice

Alot of people don’t even look at these types of jobs becuase they know they can’t handle the responsibilities and the commitment you need to work it. Just try it, it is a humbling experience and you’ll be glad you even applied. You have to be open to it before you can even close your own door.

Camp Counselor-in-Training

May - July 2018 • Tyler, TX

What I liked

Among the staffers at Pine Cove, there was godly community and focus on cultivating one's relationship with God, which really helped propel one when the job got tough. A great, encouraging, and energetic environment was set up for us staffers, which in turn helped us set up a great, encouraging, and energetic environment for the staffers. This was due to great leadership and quality coworkers, and a pervasive roll-with-punches attitude that kept you going when the job was a blast or when it was an extreme challenge.

What I wish was different

Due to reasons outside our control, our overseer was absent for most of my time there. His assistant filled in for him for the weeks he was gone, and while she was fully competent, she did have different expectations for me and the other counselors-in-training. The inconsistency in expectations got a little confusing, but mostly it wasn't a big deal.

Advice

Life is hard, but God is good. Push through the hard parts, because the eventual rewards are oh so good.

Advice

So growing, so worth it to further your relationship with Christ. It is easy to do for a summer or two, but then for a business major you need go find an internship that pertains to your field of study.
