Sales Associate

May - August 2019 • Bellevue, WA

What I liked

I loved the people! Everyone working there was extremely friendly and helpful. The management was fantastic and I felt like my voice could be hear. I also enjoyed the diversity of my job responsibilities, from processing freight to working the cash register and everything in between.

What I wish was different

I wish there were less corporate restrictions that made it hard to maximize the good we could do in the world. For example, if there was a piece of furniture that was usable, just not sellable, we had to destroy it instead of donating it to someone who could benefit from it.

Advice

Working at Pier 1 is a great opportunity to learn how best serve your customer. It taught me patience and perseverance, but also joy and how to have an open mind.

Sales Associate

May - August 2018 • Glendale, AZ

What I liked

The manager was great. I learned a lot about how to talk to people not just socially, but through a sales mindset without losing the personal connection. I learned how to work with people who I would not usually be able to work with, like people who have lives outside of ASU classes.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to stay on longer.

Advice

Just because it seems like a side job or a summer job, it was more than that. Look at every opportunity as a professional development, networking or learning opportunity. Everything you do has a skill you can take away and use in the future.
