Independant personal trainer

July 2019 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

I enjoy helping others set and achieve their fitness goals.

What I wish was different

Finding people willing to make a financial commitment to their health and fitness can be difficult. This problem is exacerbated by untrained, and uneducated "trainers" willing to provide inadequate services for significantly less money.

Advice

Believe in yourself and your abilities. Know your topic, be an expert in the field, and never stop learning!

Carpenter

May - August 2020 • Holmdel Township, NJ

What I liked

I worked on my own schedule and produced hand-made wood products that I was proud of. I learned a lot along the way and I enjoyed being an entrepreneur after losing my summer internship due to COVID-19.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have completed my summer internship for the professional experience, however, I am proud of what I accomplished with my own business in such a short amount of time.

Advice

I would tell others finding themselves in similar situations to view COVID and other job-related hardships as an opportunity to pursue passions and try your hand at entrepreunership. I encountered many obstacles along the way but it was so rewarding doing something I liked and having earnings from my own small business.

Babysitting

June - August 2020 • Belmont, MA

What I liked

I worked outside for almost the entire summer and I loved being outside. I got a lot more comfortable with planning activities and managing materials.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been more exciting for the kids. It was hard for me to get them to do activities we would typically do at a summer camp out of their house. I think it was simply because when kids go to camp they expect to do the activities but when they are home they expect to just do whatever they want.

Advice

Planning activities is key. Parents understanding the program and making sure their kids understand the program is key. It’s going to be really tough and really draining, but it works out.
