I enjoyed learning what it was like to be in an actual engineering job, albeit an internship position job. I enjoyed learning machining from the machinists, design from the engineers, and various other skills

Advice
Use internships to learn all you can in every aspect possible. I didn't just focus on design, but on manufacturing and production as well.
