Intern

June - August 2023 • Washington, DC

What I liked

It was a really encouraging environment with colleagues who were more than ready to help you with anything and everything. It was also hybrid, paid, and everyone was great about thanking and encouraging eachother.

What I wish was different

I wish the office space itself was more visually appealing and welcoming, or that it ended a little earlier since it was a long commute for me.

Advice

Meet and help out as many people as you possibly can! Take advantage of any opportunities you have to expand your portfolio/resume and form genuine connections.

Research Intern

July - September 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I was an intern with the Journalism and Media Research team at the Pew Research Center. Through my time at Pew, I was able to learn quite a lot about the process of survey research and analysis as well as gain some different technical skills through the various workshops and classes held as a part of the internship program, be it in specific research techniques or data visualizations. I gained a much clearer understanding of my interests within the vast realm of research and benefited greatly from interacting with both my superiors and my peers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to interact with other interns more.

Advice

Reach out to other people from different teams who share your interests. Ask questions and make sure to do your absolute best and be open to learning new skills.
