Performance Services, Inc.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work environment. The team atmosphere of Performance Services Inc. makes the projects a lot easier because everyone is trying to move in the same direction. This environment is partially due to the people in the office, who are very kind and open to answering any questions that you may have. One of my favorite projects was at a school near Milwaukee, where I helped with some of the digital modeling and calculations. Finally, since Performance Services Inc. works on many projects at once, you get a wider experience with a lot of different types of projects.

What I wish was different

The main thing that I wish had been different was finding ways to get more experience. During the experience, I worked on multiple projects in a variety of ways, but I believe that there was more that I could have done. Performance Services Inc. covers a pretty wide range of markets, so there is always more to learn. Finally, I would have liked to be on-site a bit more often. I would usually be on-site a couple of times a week, which is very interesting and makes a lot more sense than looking at pictures of a site.

Advice

The one piece of advice that I would give is to find ways to contribute to projects, even if you aren't given a specific task. An example of this is researching some of the HVAC equipment that Performance Services Inc. uses so that you are prepared when you are given a task. Another way you can do this is by familiarizing yourself with the various job sites. Though these things are not directly related to a project, they will help your experience because you will understand more of the meetings you are in.
